DescriptionGlencairn is a parish and a Community Council area in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It takes its name from the Cairn Water, which originates in the parish. In 1879 the painter James Paterson visited the village of Moniaive, where he found the scenery to his liking and conducive to painting 'en plein air'. After his marriage to Eliza Ferguson in 1884, they settled in a cottage here and he produced many beautiful paintings of the area.
