DescriptionMauchline is a town and civil parish in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The first mention of Mauchline is in reference to a battle fought on Mauchline Moor in 681 between the Picts and the Scots. In 1165, Walter fitz Alan, High Steward of Scotland, granted a charter giving land to the Cistercian Monks of Melrose. After the reformation the lands of Mauchline passed into the hands of the Earl of Loudoun, and no further historical events are recorded in the parish.
