Bramley is a Saxon name meaning a clearing in the broom. There was an Iron Age fort in the general area but no Celtic or Roman artifacts have been found in the village. The settlement appears in six large parcels in the Domesday Book as Brolege or Bronlei. It was held by the Bishop of Bayeux. |
