The original church at Thorncombe was dedicated to St Mary by William Brewer, Bishop of Exeter, in 1239. Until 1844, the parish of Thorncombe was an exclave of Devon, at which time it was transferred, following changes to parliamentary boundaries under an Act of Parliament, to Dorset. |
