| Description | Mullion (Cornish: Eglosvelyan) is a civil parish and village in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated on the Lizard Peninsula approximately five miles south of Helston. Prehistoric Mullion left remains of burial mounds and Celtic crosses. The parish takes its name from the 6th century Saint Melaine of Rennes and has been spelled St Mullyon, St Mullian, Mullian, Mullyan, Mulion, Mullyon and St Mullion over the years. In the Valor Ecclesiasticus carried out in 1535 the village name is recorded as Melyan. The present parish church was laid in the 13th century but most of the structure dates from the 15th century. |
